FIRST STAGE OF TRIAL BEGINS ON OCT 3
The first stage of the Pine Gap 4 trial begins in the Northern Territory Supreme Court in Alice Springs on Tuesday October 3rd. Our legal team, headed by retired Federal Court Judge, Ron Merkel Q.C will be opposing the Commonwealth's use of the draconian Defence (Special Undertakings) Act 1952 which carries outrageous penalties of a maximum of seven years in prison for trespass.
Outside the courtroom, activists from all over Australia will be making a noise about Pine gap's role in the war in Iraq as part of the National Peace Convergence which will culiminate in protest actions at Pine Gap on the weekend of Oct 7-8.
Guests include Plowshare's activist, Ciaron O'Reilly, recently acquitted by a Dublin jury after causing $2.5million damage to a military plane at Shannon airport on its way to Iraq.
